WHY BERKELEY for your MBA program:

Becoming an Innovative Person and Driving Economic Growth in our Society

There are only a handful of MBA students who are Japanese at Haas School of Business. Japan was the 2nd largest economy until recently. Doing what you are told will not drive economic growth, it will make competition even worse and profitability goes to zero, according to Microeconomics Theory on Longterm Equilibium of Pricing (Increase in the number of suppliers drives sales price down).
What we need is someone who can make changes, drive economic growth and create wealth for the company and the society. Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley will teach you how to think differently and drive innovation. I think this is one of the best value propositions I have ever seen from anyone.

Healthcare System Reform in Japan 2010:

Taiwan, Singapore, New Zealand have done it.

Japan has many issues in healthcasre system: Medical insurance system, IT implementation, running healthcare provider efficiently as a whole and other measures are needed immediately.
a) Medical insurance system from both private sector and public sector must be merged just as Taiwan has done it in 1995.
b) Health care providers will need to work as if they are a single entity. Implementation of nationwide IT system to support various activities is essential.
c) In this globalized world, personal health care records and other system need to be compatible to those used outside Japan.

USE OF INTERNET WEBSITES and Work Flow System for Managing CSR Activities

Software as a Service (SaaS) or cloud computing must be deployed to build unified web based work flow system to combat social issues, poverty, political conflicts and making public policy making process more effective. Without unified system, which ensures data to flow from and to all participants, driving innovation will not be possible.
Barack Obama campaign proved that building a platform so all participants can coordinate efforts and divide up tasks using web 2.0 and SNS technologies works. I hope the next President of the United States of America and the citizens globally will be able to participate in the efforts to make the world a better place.

SERVICE SCIENCE DESIGN: Contributing to the Economic Growth Through Use of IT Platform

SSME (Service Science Management Engineering)

80 % of GDP is in the service sector in USA. Yet, most of us have no clue on how to design effective services. SSME is the attempt by universities, businesses and the governments to provide systematic way to train the knowledge workers to design successful service systems. US and UK governments are placing SSME as one of most important policy agenda as economic growth and well being of our work force, society depends on the quality and the success of the service being offerred. SSME leaders such as IBM, UC Berkeley and others have made presentation and papers on SSME publicly available on the Internet. Innovation happens when the knowledge on SSME theories and cases become widely known within our society. It is my hope that we all become proficient in designing effective services so our society will be a better place for everyone.

Crash Course on CSR

A handbook for peer to peer class on learning what's CSR is all about

CSR covers many different areas and through history have evolved from compliance, then to sustainability and so on. Due to complexity of the subject, it is rather difficult to understand how each company or individual can effectively participate in making the world better place without studying business ethics and CSR extensively.

This handbook and separate independent study paper covers topics in macroeconomics, organizational behavior, shaping public policies and other subjects in order to facilitate better understanding of topics affecting CSR efforts.

This paper was written in attempt to provide overview of CSR and also latest theories on CSR, so anyone starting to be involved can benefit from this handbook.

We all need to participate in the effort to make the world a better place.

ENERGY BILL 2007, How did it end up what it is….

Analysis on why one year long public policy making ends up being not so optimum law making.

Public Policy Making process may not be working properly in this increasingly complex society. Citizens, rather than corporations, must take part in public consensus building and influence what goes on to political agenda. The reality is that corporations use interest groups to influence what goes on the agenda and the President and politicians have to take care of industry which helped them elected.
By checking out websites of commitees of US Senate and the House of Representatives for opinions submitted by industry associations, corporations in Automobile, Utilities, Oil & Gas, etc, and by checking out reader’s comments on New York Times Energy Bill 2007 related reports, I was able to grasp how Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (The Energy Bill 2007) ended up what it is. (Not so great, not so effective in solving issues)
This paper was written as a term paper for 2 unit course at UC Berkeley MBA program. Prof. David Vogel
